Girls' Day at E.ON ERC
This year, a group of nine girls from Aachen and environment attended the "Girls' Day“ at the E.ON Energy Research Center. They attended various workshops according to the motto “Energy production, energy consumption, energy saving in the areas of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, georessources, and economics.” During the workshops, the girls learned more about the challenges of sustainable energy and the need for interdisciplinary work.
In their first experiment the girls learned how to make the movement of air visible. The type of air flow and the velocity of air particles were shown to the girls in an experiment with small bubbles at the experiment hall of E.ON Energy Research Center. During a quiz, they could prove their knowledge on the subjects environment, energy saving and renewable energies. Furthermore, another workshop provided an insight into the future problems of the electrical power supply on the basis of a wind park model.
The fifth institute of the center presented how lemons and coke can light up LEDs.
