Horizon 2020: PLUG-N-HARVESTEuropean Union
Within the EU-funded programme “Horizon 2020” the project „PLUG-N-HARVEST – PLUG-N-play passive and active multi-modal energy HARVESTing systems, circular economy by design, with high replicability for Self-sufficient Districts Near-Zero Buildings“ has been started successfully last month.
The main goal of this project is the development and examination of modular facade systems to be used in retrofitting. Beside the physical aspect of strengthening the heat transmitting exterior surface there will be the implementation of decentral plant technology combined with the usage of renewable energy. In this way the primary energy demand can be reduced particularly effectively by energy use reductions simultaneous with energy harvesting. Different building types are considered on both a single-building and district level. The selection of materials and the design depend on economic efficiency and circular economy principles.
At RWTH Aachen University, an interdisciplinary team of associates of the E.ON ERC EBC and the Institute of Steel Construction is jointly working together on the project. The other consortium partners are research and industry partners from Greece, Spain as well as the United Kingdom. The consortium is headed by the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). Project duration is scheduled to be 51 months and includes, besides the theoretical and practical elaboration of prototypes, the implementation on pilot objects with subsequent monitoring in Aachen and the partner countries.
This project has received funding from the European Unionīs Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 768735.
